Five Things to Know in Centreville This Week
An ice cream social and an open house to honor CVHS principal Michael Campbell are among the many things going on in the Centreville area this week.
1. will take place on Monday, May 28, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Historic Centreville Park, located along Mt. Gilead Road. (near ). The Shamless barbershop quartet will perform music from the 1940s, while the historic Spindle Sears house will be open for tours. .
2. There will be an open house at in the media center, on Tuesday, May 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in honor of Principal Michael Campbell, who is retiring at the end of this year. The public is invited to attend this event, which will be hosted by the CVHS PTSA.

3. The JAZZCATS will on Friday, June 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. in a club-like atmosphere with dim lights, professional sound and lighting, tableclothes and candles. Special guests Dave Detwiler and the White House Band will perform after the 'Cats. Tickets are $8 in advance by contacting Cathy Detmer at (703) 830-2992, or emailing jazzcatstix@yahoo.com. Tickets will be $10.00 at the door.
4. The Fairfax County Health Department has recently started trapping mosquitos as part of routine surveillance for West Nile Virus. Traps are set up at 68 locations throughout the county: most will be on public property, such as schools and parks. They may look suspicious at first, but are marked "mosquito trap" in capital letters and should not be disturbed. See the attached file for more information.

5. will hold its grand opening on Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The winery features nine signature wines, is located next to the Manassas National Battlefield and has a rustic, historical atmosphere.
