
1) The Fairfax County Police Department says that a large group of solicitors may be selling magazines door-to-door in the local area. Generally the solicitors are young adults (18-25 years old), brought in from out of state and transported from neighborhood to neighborhood by van, and most of the time, police say, the subscriptions are not valid.
Police suggest that you don't answer the door if they arrive in your neighborhood, in order to avoid other possible crimes (like burglary and larceny). Instead, call 703-691-2131 and ask for a patrol officer to come check out the situation.
2) Speaking of the police, Captain John Piper will be leaving the Sully District for a new assignment as Commander of the Criminal Intelligence Division. Piper has served at the Sully District Station since December 2009. Captain Purvis Dawson will be stepping in as the new Commander of the station beginning April 8th.

3) . While a spokesman for the company said that the project is still in the early planning stages, it will be located in the north hall of the Dulles Expo Center.
4) Set your calendars: a public hearing on redistricting will be held this weekend at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Fairfax County Government Center. Maps were released this week that will affect the boundaries for Congress, the state Senate and the House of Delegates. If you cannot attend on Saturday, there is also a hearing at 7:30 tonight—all the way over in Leesburg, at the Loudoun County Board.

Public participation at these hearings is important, because the redistricting process always tends to be . Look for more coverage on Patch this week about the proposed redistricting maps.
5) A portion of Bull Run Post Office Road will be closed for a month due to construction, beginning April 4. VDOT is replacing a metal pipe that's collapsed with concrete culvert. The area affected is just south of Braddock Road, where Bull Run Post Office crosses Elk Lick Run, but no through traffic will be allowed between Lee Highway and Braddock.
Drivers should use Pleasant Valley Road to the east and Gum Springs Road in Loudoun County to the West instead. VDOT also notes that the detour has already been rescheduled twice due to the weather, and may be rescheduled if there's bad weather again. We'll let you know if that's the case.
