House Catches Fire Overnight In Centreville

Three residents were displaced when a fire broke out in the basement of a Centreville home, authoritie said.

CENTREVILLE, VA — Three Centreville residents were displaced Tuesday evening when a fire broke out in the basement of a home in the 15200 block of Eagle Tavern Way.

The fire was reported around 8:39 p.m. by the residents of the home, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said in a news release. Someone in the home noticed a burned smell and found a fire had broken in a gas furnace in the basement.

Authorities said the residents of the home evacuated quickly and were not injured. One cat died in the blaze.

The fire was put out quickly, but not before causing an estimated $90,000 in damage, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
