UPDATE: Man Dies on I-66, Traffic Tangles Follow After Crash
A South Carolina man died on Monday afternoon.

Update 9:20 p.m. A South Carolina man died today on I-66, authorities have confirmed.
Virginia State Police issued a statement this evening saying that the driver of a 1997 BMW sedan was traveling west on I-66 and apparently lost control. Eyewitnesses said that the BMW was weaving across lanes, then struck the guardrail on the right side of the road, according to state police.
The car crossed back into westbound lanes and struck a 1999 Ford Explorer. The driver of the Explorer, who was not wearing a seat belt, then spun out and overturned several times. The driver was partially thrown from the Explorer and died at the scene, police said.

Update: 6:40 p.m. We've pieced together a picture of what's going on based on information from multiple readers. Route 50 and I-66 are a parking lot and I-66 is still closed at Fairfax County Parkway while state police investigate the incident. Traffic going east (and west, after the area shut down) near Centreville, is apparently moving smoothly.
Route 50, 123N, Stringfellow Rd., West Ox Road and virtually all of downtown Fairfax City are congested. Those traveling on Nutley St., near Lee Hwy, are also stuck in some serious congestion.
