Moms Talk Q&A: How to Talk to Kids About the Tragedy in Japan

How do parents talk to their kids about death and tragedy on such a large scale?

This morning many Centreville residents and people around the country turned on their TVs only to view horrific images of a natural disaster that has killed at least 300 people in Japan.  The death toll is expected to rise.

Whenever a large-scale tragedy of this nature occurs, kids have questions. How should parents talk to their kids about this topic in a way that's age-appropriate? If you have family or friends in Japan, how have you explained what's going on to your kids? Will you let them watch the news coverage?
