Overnight Closures on the Fairfax County Parkway Thursday

Crews will be working to erect new overhead signs.

In the overnight hours on Thursday, March 8, crews will close the Fairfax County Parkway in two different locations to erect new overhead signs.

Starting at 9 p.m., the right lane northbound between the Barta Road overpass and Donegal Lane will close with an intermittent full closure of all lanes for up to 15 minutes between 10:30 p.m. and midnight.

From 12:30 a.m. to 3 a.m., crews will shift to the southbound lanes and close the Parkway at Sydenstricker Road. Traffic will be detoured to the Sydenstricker exit, and back to the southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway.

Police will be on site directing traffic, and in case of inclement weather, this work will be rescheduled. This work is a part of the final phase of the Fairfax County Parkway project, which includes a Rolling Road overpass that will be completed in July 2012.

The Fairfax County Parkway project is being built by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA) and Fairfax County.
