Rabid Skunk Fights Dogs in Chantilly Home, Dies in Backyard

The Dachshund/Beagle and Weimeraner received booster shots and were routinely quarantined following the attack.

A Chantilly resident arrived home on March 25 to find scratches on her dogs, a strong odor in her home and a dead skunk in the backyard.

The homeowner called animal control at 6:10 p.m., and an officer tested the skunk for rabies. The results were positive, so the Dachshund/Beagle and Weimeraner received booster shots and were routinely quarantined.

Fairfax County animal control said that the skunk likely entered the home, fought with the dogs, and died after leaving the home.
