Red Flag Fire Warning For Tuesday

The National Weather Service warns that critical fire conditions are in effect.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a red flag fire warning for Tuesday, which is in effect until 8 p.m.

The warning, which means that critical fire conditions are present, is for Northern and Central Virginia, in addition to Eastern West Virginia, the District of Columbia and most of Maryland.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures "will create explosive fire growth potential," the NWS warned.

A red flag warning was in effect most of the weekend and Monday, as well.

The potential is high for rapid spread of any uncontrolled brush or wild fires, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. The department advises people to avoid or be extremely careful igniting any flames during this period.
