Relay for Life Plans Underway

The Relay for Life will be held on June 9th. Registration is open now.

The Relay for Life of Centreville/Chantilly will take place on June 9 at .

Registration is open: 132 people were signed up as of Thursday and have already raised nearly $21,500 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Teams sign up for the overnight event and take turns circling the designated area together.

The event will start with an opening ceremony at noon. At 12:30 p.m., cancer survivors will circle the track together. Participants will hold a "Luminaria Ceremony" at 9 p.m., honoring lives touched by cancer, by lighting candles inside bags filled with sand. Then at midnight, during a "Fight Back Ceremony," participants will commit to fighting cancer. The walk will continue until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone interested in learning more can attend a  Relay Rally planning meeting, which will be held on May 17, at 7 p.m. at The nZone. Organizers will present more details about the walk and how people can become involved with the Relay for Life.
