- In case you missed it: Fairfax County and the Virginia Department of Transportation have begun construction to widen a 1.5-mile stretch of Route 29 near Centreville, adding two lanes to the roadway between Union Mill Road and Buckleys Gate Drive. The project, which began on Feb. 9 and celebrated a ceremonial groundbreaking this past Wednesday, Mar. 15, aims to increase safety and capacity in the corridor. The project is estimated to cost $97 million, with funding from federal, state, and local sources, as well as a concession fee from I-66. (FFX Now)
- The Fairfax County School Board passed a resolution on Mar. 9 granting collective bargaining rights to employees. The Fairfax County Federation of Teachers praised the move for giving teachers the ability to negotiate for better working conditions, wages, and benefits. The decision followed the Virginia General Assembly's 2020 action allowing school boards to enter into collective bargaining relationships with staff representatives. (Annandale Today)
