Spring Forward for Daylight Saving Time

Set your clock forward one hour on early Sunday.

Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday, so get ready to set your clock forward one hour.

It officially begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday. Firefighters also remind residents that the time change is a good opportunity to check the batteries on your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors.

Daylight Saving Time started in the United States during World War I as an effort to conserve energy. The time change better aligns sunrise and sunset with people’s normal waking hours. It was instituted again during World War II. Congress passed the Uniform Time Act, which standardized this, in 1966.
