Builders for Babies Diaper Drive Kicks Off this Mother’s Day, May 11th

HomeAid Aims to Collect One Million Diapers and Wipes for Families in Need

Fairfax County, VA. – May 1, 2025 – This Mother’s Day, May 11, HomeAid National Capital Region kicks off its annual Builders for Babies Diaper Drive — a region-wide effort to collect diapers and wipes for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The drive runs through Father’s Day, June 15, and invites individuals, businesses, schools, and community groups to host their own diaper collection events.

With diaper costs topping $1,000 a year per child, many families face tough choices. Most daycare centers require parents to provide diapers. No diapers often means no daycare, which can mean lost jobs or missed income. Without access, parents may try to stretch their supply — sometimes reusing diapers or leaving them on too long, which can lead to rashes and discomfort.

“This drive helps remove a basic but critical barrier for struggling parents,” said Kristyn Burr, CEO of HomeAid National Capital Region. “Our approach is simple: collect diapers and wipes, deliver them directly to our nonprofit partners, and get them into the hands of families who need them — no red tape, no waiting.” She also noted that diapers aren’t covered by SNAP or WIC, making these donations even more essential.

Last year’s collection resulted in more than 775,000 diapers and wipes being distributed to local nonprofits serving those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. In 2025, HomeAid is setting an ambitious new target: to collect one million diapers and wipes by June 15.

“That’s right—one million,” Burr said. “We’re reaching higher because the need has never been more urgent. Families in our community are counting on us, and with your help, we can be a key resource and fill a huge gap in our community.”
