Chantilly Resident Rappels Down Washington Monument

Erik Sohn is a member of the team that's tasked with inspecting the Washington Monument.

Erik Sohn of Chantilly lowered himself down the 555-foot Washington Monument with a team of professionals on Wednesday to look for damage caused by the in August.

According to CBSNews.com, the team will be maneuvering up and down the monument over the next several days take photos and tapping the "stones with a soft mallet, listening for indications of damage".  They are also equipped with masonry tools, two-way radios and iPads with important information from the 1999 restoration. 

Sohn's wife, Schalyn, was on site to watch the event with their infant daughter and 3-year-old son, Schaffer, who was appropriately donning his Spiderman shirt.  His sister, Deb Blanchard, was also in attendance after driving in from Palmyra, PA.
