- The last remaining Corner Bakery Cafe in Arlington has closed its doors as of Monday, Feb. 27. The fast-casual bakery and cafe chain recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has been facing challenges due to the pandemic and work-from-home trends. Corner Bakery is encouraging customers who frequented the Courthouse neighborhood cafe to visit its other locations in D.C. and Bethesda. (ARLnow)
- A pit bull mix named Marley was euthanized after biting and injuring a smaller dog that escaped from its owner in Rosslyn. The decision was made by the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) following a 10-day bite quarantine, despite several other rescues offering to take Marley and a petition to save her reaching over 7,000 signatures. Marley's foster mom claimed that the other dog had attacked first and Marley had simply reacted. (WJLA)
- Attention, Metrorail riders: the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has announced that late-night Metrorail service on weeknights will be reduced for three weeks due to maintenance work on the tracks. - Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Francisco Durán has proposed a budget of $803.3 million for the 2023-2024 school year, reflecting an increase of more than 7 percent over the current budget. The proposed budget highlights the mental and physical health of students and increased support for teachers, prompted by major events like student deaths and drug overdoses this year. The budget also includes investments in academic and mental health support, compensation for teachers and staff, and division-wide safety and security measures. (ARLnow)
