County Board To Discuss Ballston Metro Kiosk

The board will meet for a second time this week at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The for its regular meeting and removed several items from that agenda to allow for more discussion on Tuesday. That meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Boardroom, 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

What to expect on Tuesday:

  • The Board will decided whether to allow the Westover Market, 5863 Washington Blvd., to host live entertainment in its outdoor beer garden. County Manager Barbara Donnellan, who is recommending the board deny the request, said on Saturday that outdoor entertainment permits are rarely approved. ARLnow.com reports, though, that it "appears that the board is leaning toward approving some sort of live entertainment permit with additional restrictions."
  • The Board will discuss the possibility of approving a commuter kiosk in the Ballston Metro station. Such kiosks are common in other metro stops.
  • The Board will also discuss transportation project funding, specifically agreements between the state department of transportation and the local government over "the local project administration of pedestrian related streetscape improvements on North Glebe Road" and "local project administration of the purchase and installation of Bikeshare stations."

  • The Board will also give special recognition to the scientists that developed the ARPANET, which is now known as (this little thing we call) the Internet. Two historic markers, which will eventually be on display at the former ARPA headquarter in Rosslyn, will be on display at the meeting.
