Rewind: Arlington School Redistricting, Mall Redevelopment and More

March certainly came in like a lion with a lot of news this past week in Arlington and the surrounding communities. Here are the top stories of the week from Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and McLean.

School Redistricting Draws Concern from Parents—Parents are concerned about redistricting plans for some Arlington schools. Parents attended a meeting the same week Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Pat Murphy released his proposed budget.

Separately, on the heels of news about potential redevelopment of Ballston Common Mall, officials from Pentagon City’s Fashion Center said they are also considering upgrades.

Officer Shot in Alexandria—An Alexandria police officer is still in critical condition after being shot by a taxi cab driver the officer tried to pull over for a moving violation.

In other Alexandria news, Northern Virginia Community College may be the first community college in Virginia to build dorms for students.

Similar to Arlington, where two malls are facing potential redevelopment, Landmark Mall in Alexandria’s West End may see a major renovation.
