Shooting Fireworks in Arlington: What's Allowed and What's Illegal

If you'd rather organize your own at-home pyrotechnic extravaganza, there are are few things the Arlington Police Department would like to pass along.

• "Fireworks that are projectiles, explode, emit flames or sparks to a distance greater than twelve (12) feet are prohibited by Arlington County. Individuals in possession of illegal fireworks could face prosecution."
• "If you intend to purchase fireworks, it is recommended that fireworks be purchased from licensed vendors in Arlington County; permitted vendors will only sell items that meet Arlington Fire Code requirements."
• Firecrackers, cherry bombs and skyrockets may seem harmless, but they are illegal. These are just a few examples of fireworks which may be purchased in other jurisdictions, but are illegal in Fairfax and Arlington counties. Anyone in possession of these types of fireworks can face hefty fines.
