Basketball Shootout to Raise Funds for Basketball Court Lighting in Potomac Yard Park

Lots of great prizes are up for grabs; proceeds from ticket sales go to basketball court lighting in Potomac Yard Park.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria basketball enthusiasts can look forward to a Three Point Shootout contest next month, hosted by The Light it Up! Citizens Committee. Players will have the chance to win awesome prizes while raising money to erect lighting at the Potomac Yard Park basketball courts.

The preliminary round will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 2-4 p.m. at four Rec Centers across the City: William Ramsay, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, and Mt. Vernon.

Vice Mayor Justin Wilson, and City Council Members Willie Bailey, John Taylor Chapman, and Tim Lovain will officiate.

The semifinal and final round will take place at T.C. Williams' High School during the two half-times of the T.C. Titans boys and girls varsities' doubleheader against Lake Braddock High on Tuesday, Dec. 13 with the winners from each location competing for the chance to win a one-year league membership through United Social Sports (a prize valued at $1,000), a set of three Next Level Skills clinics hosted and run by the Alexandria Kings AAU basketball club (a $150 value), or a pair of tickets to an upcoming Washington Wizards game.

Players of all ages can enter at a ticket price of only $5 per person and donations will also be accepted at each location. All proceeds will be put to defray the costs of erecting athletic lighting at the Potomac Yard Park basketball courts, are fully tax-deductible, and will be matched by the City of Alexandria.

The Light It UP! Citizens Committee is a nonprofit charitable group with ACT for Alexandria, partnering with the City to raise the $150,000 total needed to provide lights at the basketball courts at Potomac Yard in Alexandria, VA. Light it UP! has raised $2,000 already and is accepting contributions at the https://www.razoo.com/us/story/Light-It-Up-Fund.

The city has agreed to match any funds raised for this effort up to $75,000.
