Bellefonte Wizards Finish Third at State Champsionships

The Bellefonte Wizards, a basketball team comprised of men and women who live in Alexandria residential programs that assist adults with intellectual disabilities, finished third at the Virginia Special Olympics earlier this month in Stafford.

“Everybody enjoyed themselves,” Wizards coach Peter Mathews said of the two-day trip that included an overnight hotel stay for the players.

The team raised funds for their trip to the state championships with a March 8 pep rally at the Lee Center. The Kelley Cares Foundation donated $1,000 to the Wizards for transportation needs related to the trip.

The Wizards won their two preliminary games, then suffered two close losses on the second day of the tournament, Mathews said.
