Davis discussed frozen custard, her shop’s specialty, and its cultural history in the greater Milwaukee area. The Wisconsin native said her Del Ray shop was a way to bring her state and its people with her when she life took her out of the Badger state.
“I wasn’t going to be able to go back to Wisconsin to live my life and so I brought the frozen custard along with the Wisconsinites to me, so Wisconsin would feel closer to me without me leaving,” she said on the show. “It really has become that place for Wisconsinites to come.”

Davis participated in a recently published video for American Food Roots, a website launched in December that explores the stories and cultures behind American cuisine.
Davis’ segment is part of the site’s My American Roots section, which highlights food stories in America through two-minute video memoirs.

The website is the brainchild of four D.C.-area food journalists—Wolf, an NPR commentator and food writer, Kayal, an Associated Press food and cultural writer, and cookbook author Domenica Marchetti and Scripps Howard News Service content editor Carol Guensburg.
