Duck Donuts Coming to Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Duck Donuts will be opening a location in Alexandria, likely toward the end of the first quarter of 2017. The shop is set to move into the space recently occupied by the Crave frozen yogurt shop at Bradlee Shopping Center at 3610F King St. in Alexandria.

The doughnut shop offers freshly made doughnuts of the day and "made to order" doughnuts, where you choose the toppings.

The growing chain got its start about a decade ago in the Outer Banks. Duck Donuts opened a location last fall in Arlington, in the Lee Harrison Shopping Center, at 2511 N. Harrison St. Other locations in Northern Virginia include Woodbridge, Fairfax and Bristow.

The Arlington store has earned 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp from 126 reviews in the past year.

How popular is Duck Donuts? Launched in 2006 in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Duck Donuts now has more than 25 locations. The shop's Maple Bacon doughnut has a cult-like following. One couple even got engaged over the warm and made-to-order pastry, according to The Food Network.

Duck Donuts serves up a varied menu of flavors including maple icing, powdered sugar and peanut butter icing. You can also top your donut with everything from shredded coconut to bacon bits. Duck Donuts notes that each donut contains approximately 210 calories. Their donuts are fried in a soy-based shortening and contain the following ingredients:

• Wheat and corn flour
• soybean oil
• nonfat dry milk
• egg yolks
• beta carotene
