6 p.m. update —  Alexandria Chief Fire Marshal Robert Rodriguez said it was “an accidental fire” that started in the first-floor wall of Market 2 Market. Smoke made its way into the basement and second floor of the building, which sustained an estimated $200,000 in damages, Rodriguez said.

The Alexandria Fire Department currently is responding to a fire incident behind St. Elmo's Coffee Pub in the 100 block of E. Del Ray Avenue. 

An Alexandria Fire Department spokesman told Patch crews are still searching for the source.

Mount Vernon Avenue is closed between E. Oxford and E. Custis avenues as crews respond to the incident.
