Do you have guests in town for Inauguration Weekend?

Chances are, your guests will want to do more than sit on your couch waiting for the second inauguration of President Barack Obama on Monday, so we’ve rounded up some things you can do right here in Del Ray to keep your guests entertained and happy.

Alexandria's Winter Restaurant Week begins Friday and five Del Ray-Arlandria area eateries are participating, including Cheesetique, Monroe's and  Outside of those, our Del Ray Patch readers also voted St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub the best coffee shop in Alexandria in our 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. Unfortunately The Dairy Godmother, another former Obama destination, is closed until February.

Places to See

Of course, your guests should definitely take a stroll along The Avenue, and take in the unique local businesses and restaurants.

Right next to Braddock Road Metro, George Washington Middle School (formerly a high school) has several famous former students—Jim Morrison from The Doors, and John Phillips and Cass Elliot from The Mamas and the Papas.

Del Ray has a lot of historical markers you may overlook in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The neighborhood has some unique history as a rail hub, if you know where to look.

And, you can always take a walk or bike ride in Four Mile Run Park and link up with the Four Mile Run Trail with connections to the Mount Vernon and W&OD trails.
