ALEXANDRIA, VA — Before JD Vance moved into the vice presidential home in D.C., his family had a home in the Alexandria neighborhood of Del Ray. Now, that home has sold in five days after being put on the market, according to realtor.com.

Realtor.com, a site for real estate listings, reported that the $1.69 million home sold less than a week after it was put up for sale on Feb. 27. The vice president, Second Lady Usha Vance, and their three children, moved to the U.S. Naval Observatory 1 Observatory Circle when President Donald Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20.

According to the Washington Post, Vance's presence in the Del Ray neighborhood had generated mixed opinions from neighbors. The Del Ray neighborhood is a dominantly blue community where some neighbors display signs and flags promoting LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity. The neighborhood also maintains a small town feel with its small businesses along the main route of Mount Vernon Avenue, walkable streets and presence of families with strollers and dogs.

Vance's run on Trump's presidential ticket prompted closures by Secret Service at Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park in front of his Del Ray home in late August 2024. The Secret Service made changes to make the park closures less frequent in early September 2024, but the park did not fully reopen until the Vance family was relocating to the Naval Observatory.

Records from realtor.com show the home was last sold in 2023. The home is described as a century-old farmhouse with five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Alexandria continues to be a hot real estate market, with realtor.com showing median listing prices continuing to climb and days on the market averaging at less than a month. However, active listings are slightly up.
