New Pizza Delivery, Carryout Restaurant Proposed for Mount Vernon Avenue

Owner of Sicilian Pizzeria on Calvert Avenue proposes to launch another business, next door to Al's Steak House.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The owner of Sicilian Pizzeria on Calvert Avenue in Alexandria is proposing to open another pizza and Italian cuisine delivery and carryout restaurant, on Mount Vernon Avenue.

Although the restaurant will be mainly delivery and carryout, there will be seating inside for eight people, according to plans filed with the City.

The plans are in an application before the City Planning Commission, published Thursday by the City. No word on whether the Mount Vernon Avenue location will go by the same name. Sicilian Pizzeria carries an extensive menu including chicken wings, salads, pasta, sandwiches, wraps, desserts, calzones and about 15 different pizza choices.

The new restaurant would be located next door to Al's Steak House, which has been temporarily closed since sometime around January with no updates from the owners since then. The new pizza restaurant would be across the street from FireFlies and two doors down from Junction Bakery & Bistro (formerly Mancini's), opening later this spring.

The space where the new pizza delivery and carryout restaurant is proposing to locate, 1504-B Mount Vernon Ave., was previously home to Visual Access.
