Pet Valu Plans Saturday Opening in Alexandria
Store carries pet food, treats and toys; offers do-it-yourself dog-washing stations at new Bradlee shopping center location.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The new Pet Valu store at Alexandria's Bradlee Shopping Center is planning to open Saturday, according to District Manager Carrie Cousins, who was busy Thursday afternoon, along with other employees, setting up the new store.
Hours at the new Pet Valu store will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
The new store will offer do-it-yourself dog-washing stations (there are three big tubs), premium pet food, treats and toys for dogs, cats, small mammals and birds. Cousins said to look for weekend specials, buy-one-get-one-free deals and coupons for a free dog wash. Dog washes are $10 and include everything you need to wash and dry your pet.

The store is located at 3562 King St., in the spot between Atlantis and the new Michael's craft store; the location was formerly occupied by B&C Jewelers, which has moved to 3610-G King St., next door to SunTrust Bank. The jewelry store has been at the shopping center since it first opened in 1957.
Cousins, the district manager, acknowledged the competition at Bradlee, Pro Feed. "It's a friendly competition," she said.

"We've been here for more than 20 years and we don't intend on going anywhere," Kyle Pearson, owner of Pro Feed, which has three other locations in the metro DC area, said in October.
Pet Value has hired five employees for the new Bradlee store and plans to hold a grand opening after it opens. Pet Valu also partners with local organizations to help facilitate pet adoptions and pet training and will host those on an occasional basis, as well as donate food to animal shelters.
