Poet Laureate Seeking Poems, Artwork About Your Street
MAPP Alexandria project seeks to create interactive map.

Amy Young, Alexandria’s poet laureate, is calling on city residents to submit poems and artwork about the streets they live on and use everyday for a project called Mapping Alexandria in Poems and Pictures, or MAPP Alexandria.
The poems and artwork will be collected on the city’s website to create an interactive map of Alexandria.
Residents are urged to send their poems and artwork to poet@alexandriava.gov by April 19. Submitted items will continue to be collected on the city’s website after the deadline.

The sun went bowling here today.
It rolled from the snow-covered lot at one end of the street
past picket fences, barking dogs and bird feeders,
past bungalows and brick colonials,
past cigarette-smoking city workers and Nature’s Nibbles
and hit a strike at the avenue’s end,
scattering its rays through the windows
of Mt. Vernon Community School.
