Restaurant Inspections: Rustico, Zoe's Kitchen, Los Toltecos + More

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria Health District officials recently inspected food preparation and storage in Alexandria. Full reports can be accessed on the health department’s NEW website.

A “critical violation” is one that “poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served.”

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” according to the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here’s a look at some recent observations made by health inspectors at some restaurants in Alexandria. Not all violations are “critical” and most are corrected during inspections.

• Chequers and Railstop Gastropub, 901 N. Fairfax St., Feb. 9: 5 critical; 4 non-critical, 2 repeat
• Warehouse Bar & Grill, 214 King St., Feb. 10: Change of ownership inspection/no violations
• Rustico Restaurant, 827 Slaters Lane, Feb. 10: 2 non-critical, 2 repeat (follow up from Feb. 2 visit, when 3 critical violations were found)
• Ted's Montana Grill, 2451 Eisenhower Ave., Feb. 10: 1 critical; 5 non-critical
• Bella Napole, 1310 Mt. Vernon Ave., Feb. 11: 4 non-critical, 4 repeat (follow up from Feb. 10 visit, when 5 critical, 14 non-critical, 3 repeat violations were found)
• Crave Frozen Yogurt, 3610 King St. Feb. 11: 2 non-critical, 2 repeat (follow up from Feb. 5 visit, when 2 critical, 2 non-critical and 2 repeat violations were found)
• Los Toltecos, 4111 Duke St., Feb. 12: 2 non-critical, 2 repeat (follow up from Feb. 11 visit, when 8 critical, 5 non-critical, 2 repeat violations were found)
• Zoe's Kitchen, 3644 King St., Feb. 17: 5 non-critical violations (follow up from Feb. 1 visit, when 4 critical, 8 non-critical and 1 repeat violations were found)
