Spring2ACTion Aims to Raise $1.5 Million Wednesday in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandrians are gearing up for an annual 24-hour fundraising marathon on Wednesday for local non-profits.

The event encourages Alexandrians to contribute to the City's nonprofit organizations through Spring2ACTion.org, a single online giving platform.

To make a donation, visit this link starting Wednesday morning at midnight.

In 2015, Spring2ACTion raised $1,276,909 in one day, benefitting 129 local nonprofit organizations. This year, the goal is to raise $1.5 million from 10,000 donors for the 140+ participating nonprofits.

The money raised benefited a wide range of services in Alexandria, including after-school programs, food and shelter, senior care, environmental conservation and arts programming, according to Spring2Action.

Here's a look at some of the Spring2ACTion events planned for Wednesday:

Midnight: Spring2ACTion starts! Go online to www.Spring2ACTion.org to donate!

MIdnight-8 a.m.: First Power Hour

6 a.m.-10 p.m: Show your donation receipt or “I Gave” sticker at Sugar Shack Donuts for a free donut!

6 a.m.-Midnight: Enjoy 24 hours of FREE events for all ages at the Del Ray Artisans Gallery at 2704 Mt. Vernon Ave (breakfast, art talks, yoga, meditation, life drawing, wine tasting, bedhead photo booth, raffle and more).

6 a.m.-Midnight: Gear up with Alexandria’s first 18 hour YOGA-THON with YoKid at Ease Studio and Cafe.

8 a.m.-10:30 a.m.: Grab breakfast at Del Ray Cafe in the upstairs room to support UpCycle.

8 a.m.-9 p.m.: Get complimentary goodies with your donation to At Home in Alexandria at Del Ray Cafe.

10 a.m.-7 p.m.: Visit with kitties from King Street Cats at The Dog Park and at Starbucks at 523 King Street.

10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m: Savor a sweet treat at Dolci Gelato, grab a free balloon animal and support Arts on the Horizon!

11 a.m.-12 noon: Second Power Hour

11 a.m. -11 p.m.: Enjoy chili and barbeque and support Alexandria Choral Society at Hard Times Cafe.

12 noon and All Day: Hungry? Pick up lunch at Holy Cow Burger, Pork Barrel BBQ or Sweet Fire Donna’s, and 25 cents of each meal will be donated to a Spring2ACTion nonprofit. The nonprofit with the most mentions wins $500!

3- 4 p.m.: Third Power Hour

3:30-7:30 p.m.: Meet current families and alumni of Potomac Crescent Waldorf School at Teaism.

4-7 p.m.: Join together with Operation Paws for Homes at The Dog Park to help shelter dogs.

4-7 p.m.: Enjoy crafts of all kinds, including craft beer and arts and crafts with UpCycle at Port City Brewing Company.

5-7 p.m.: Celebrate with a wine tasting at Unwined at Bradlee Center to support Senior Services of Alexandria.

5-7 p.m.: Have a good deed shopping night with appetizers at TSALT for Wright to Read.

5-8 p.m.: Celebrate with the extended Casa Chirilagua family at Capitol City Brewery in Shirlington.

5:30-7:30 p.m: Stop by CONVERGENCE for an arts happy hour co-sponsored by the Alexandria Arts Forum.

6-9 p.m.: Join Alexandria Little League for a Spring2ACTion gathering at Ramparts.

6-9 p.m.: Join the Center for Alexandria’s Children (CAC) and personal stylist Kathryn Martin at The Shoe Hive!

6-10 p.m.: Enjoy live music from Lunchbox Media at Fireflies Restaurant to benefit Higher Achievement.

6-9 p.m.: Help save our ship with Friends of Alexandria Archeaology with a happy hour on the Miss Christin River Boat (located at the Torpedo Factory)

6:30-8:30 p.m.: Get a free cleaning and lubing of your bike at VéloCity Bicycle Cooperative!

7-8 p.m.: Fourth Power Hour

7-8:45 p.m.: Find a good book and support Friends of the Duncan Library at the book sale at Duncan Library.

9:30 p.m.-Midnight: Watch the count down with ACT at the Spring2ACTion Late Night Party at Pork Barrel BBQ.

10-11 p.m.: Final Power Hour! Get those donations in.

11:59.59 p.m.: It’s a wrap! Thank you for another incredible year of Spring2ACTion!
