Sometimes I go running. In the fall, with the leaves circling around me. The trees towering high above me, and I feel so miniscule in this great world, and in the same breath, sublime. These infinite epiphanies are breathtaking. See more photos for this blog at http://www.shotinthedarkphoto.com/sublime
I had one today. I was leaving my first appointment and I felt an overwhelming surge of joy melded with disappointment. I critically discerned that I should have used a different lens or I could have bracketed more intentionally. I might have positioned my clients in this pose or that pose and I found, that if I continued down this path, that it would never end.
Almost in the same breath, I began to count the obstacles that I had overcome. I thought about how beautiful the scenery was and that I had capitalized on it even with 30 mph. winds. I have realized that over my short life, as I am sure many of you will agree, that success is not always natural and easy. Sometimes you can not appreciate the beauty along the way, without the discomfort. So today, I challenge you.
Push Yourself In photography you will find that you will get into patterns, ie. shooting on program, using the same poses, parks etc. Break out, and try something new. You will never find out how good you truly are at something if you never even try.

Do Not Put Yourself In A Corner I am a _____ photographer. Do not be afraid to do something you may have never done before, boudoir, product photography, weddings. I try to never turn down a job and I encourage you to do the same. It is never too late to experiment with a new field. You may surprise yourself at how much fun you can have trying something new, and with how much more creative you will be.
Be Kind When you screw up or fall short in your eyes, use it as a chance to improve the next time. And when you do well, remember to let it sink in and smile. You need to be as willing to praise yourself as you are quick to fault yourself.
Today I grew. Tomorrow I will be even better. These are the things we say on our way to success. Then one day, we will wake up and find that the true triumph was in us all along.
What are some ways that you have pushed yourself lately? Comment below. I would love to hear from you.
