Traffic Advisory: Expect Overnight Closures on Route 27

(UPDATE Tuesday): Lane closures will occur on Route 27 (Washington Boulevard) at Route 110 the nights of Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 21 for traffic shifts associated with the interchange project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The lane closures will occur as follows:

• Wednesday, Jan. 11: Southbound Route 27 lane closures between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.; intermittent full closures up to 30 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m.
• Saturday, Jan. 21: Northbound Route 27 lane closures between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m.; intermittent full closures up to 30 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m.

All work is weather permitting.

The southbound lanes of Route 27 will be shifted to the right onto the new bridge over Route 110. The northbound left lane of Route 27 will be shifted to the left onto the new bridge over Route 110; the northbound right lane will be shifted to the left, but will continue to cross Route 110 on the existing bridge. These shifts will allow for further demolition of the existing bridge.

The Route 27 over Route 110 project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.
