Snow Alert: Showers, Slick Roads Possible in Northern Virginia Wednesday Night
Crews were pre-treating roads across Northern Virginia on Wednesday, preparing for potential impacts from overnight snow.

STERLING, VA β Crews were pre-treating roadways across Northern Virginia on Wednesday, working in advance of expected light snow showers that could mean slick roadways for motorists.
There is a potential for light snow accumulation late Wednesday night into Thursday in parts of Northern Virginia and the DC metro area, according to the National Weather Service.
"Snow may coat the ground in some locations, and with temperatures near freezing this may cause slippery conditions," according to the alert from the weather service.

The best chance for snow will be between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday.
The forecast calls for temps to drop below freezing overnight Wednesday and to stay there until Saturday.

The Special Weather Statement for light snow accumulation includes the following areas in Virginia includes communities in and around Fairfax and Arlington counties and the City of Alexandria.

Here's a look at the NWS forecast for the next few days for Northern Virginia:
- Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers in the evening...then partly cloudy after midnight. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows in the mid 20s. West winds 5 to 10 mph... Becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Chance of snow 50 percent.
- Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
- Thursday night: Mostly clear in the evening...then becoming partly cloudy. Lows around 17. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the evening.
- Friday: Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming southwest in the afternoon.
- Friday night: Snow...freezing rain and sleet likely. Lows in the mid 20s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
- Saturday: Freezing rain with rain likely. Not as cool with highs around 50. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
- Saturday night: Showers likely. Lows in the lower 40s. Chance of rain 60 percent.
- Sunday: Showers. Highs in the upper 50s. Chance of rain 90 percent.
- Sunday night: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow. Lows in the mid 20s. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.
