UPDATE: Water-Skiing Santa to Surf the Potomac Christmas Eve in Alexandria

This is the 31st year that Santa and his friends have water-skied on the Potomac River on Christmas Eve.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- (UPDATE Saturday 9:40 a.m.) Santa Claus WILL waterski on the Potomac River Saturday, Christmas Eve, rain or shine. Currently,the weather forecast calls for cloudy skies but no rain at 1 p.m. Here's a message from Santa himself:

Parents, please note that the show will go on, even if it rains. Yet the current forecast shows cloudy skies at 1:00 PM. Being that Old Town Alexandria is a great destination, be sure to get there early, grab a bite to eat, and come see me and my merry crew bring joy to children's and I hope your faces.
By the way, we always start at 1 sharp, after the 12:45 PM pre-show which is new this year. The show is about 30 minutes, after which you can meet me and others like Rudolph at the gazebo behind the Torpedo Factory. I hope to see you there!

Waterskiing Santa and His Flying Elves returns Saturday, Christmas Eve, in Old Town Alexandria to surf the waves on the Potomac River; the water-skiing tradition goes back to 1986.

Head to the waterfront on Christmas Eve at 1 p.m. Pre-show begins at 12:45 p.m. The temperatures Saturday should be in the mid to upper 40s with mostly sunny skies in Alexandria, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Now in its 31st year, this favorite DC-area Christmas Eve event comes to Old Town Alexandria for the third time. You can gather at Alexandria's Potomac River waterfront for a spectacular show by the Waterskiing Santa and his wakeboarding reindeer, plus flying elves, the Grinch and his friends, Frosty the Snowman and Jack Frost. Prime viewing area is along the waterfront between King Street and Oronoco Street, which includes Founders Park and the Alexandria City Marina. They'll be water-skiing and jet-skiing.
