Worker Suffers Amputated Fingers in Machinery Incident in Del Ray

The Alexandria Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a patient who had four fingers amputated in a machinery incident, according to a spokesman for the City.
The patient was flown to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, which specializes in reattachment surgery.

"We do not have an update on the patient’s status," the spokesman for the City said in an email to Patch.
The patient was working in the Del Ray area when the incident happened Wednesday afternoon. A medical helicopter landed at Eugene Simpson Park just after lunchtime, at about 1:30 p.m., to take the patient to Baltimore.

It's uncertain where the patient was working at the time of the incident. The Alexandria Fire Department was called to 426 E. Monroe Ave. at 1 p.m.
A call to the company that owns 425 E. Monroe Ave. that houses the new ALDI grocery store undergoing renovations before opening, was not immediately returned Friday.
