Earth Art Show - April 16-26, City Hall Atrium, 10455 Armstrong St.
Part of the City of Fairfax's Spotlight on the Arts Celebration, this exhibit brings together terrific examples of art work from our four City schools with a focus on the environment, highlighting our celebration of the Earth this month. See the exuberance of a peacock made out of a wine bottle, paint brushes and scrapers; a dress made of old candy wrappers; introspective middle-school self-portraits; fourth-grade dioramas representing Virginia's regions; personal stories from third-graders in the paintings of "A Day in the Park." Atmospherically rich photographs and paintings by our high school students are all on display in this exhibit, which is organized by the City's Environmental Sustainability Committee, and supported by a grant from the Commission on Fine Arts.
Celebrate Earth Day - April 22, 6-8 p.m., Historic Blenheim, 3610 Old Lee Hwy
In celebration of Earth Day, come to Historic Blenheim to listen to live music by Paul Tangren, enjoy food and wine, and learn how to be more green. Talk to a Master Gardener, pick up seeds for your garden, and learn about community gardens, rain barrels, sustainable landscaping and waste reduction. Admission is free. Food and wine is available for purchase.
Spring Clean-Up Day - April 27
April is Fairfax’s Spring Clean-Up Month, and the City provides services to assist with spring cleaning. One of those services is Spring Clean-Up Day, where individuals or groups choose a neighborhood or public area to clean up. The City provides trash bags and collects the used trash bags on Spring Clean-Up Day, which this year is set for April 27. Choose a park, roadside, creek bed, historic property or other area that needs your attention. Obtain permission from the property owners, such as the City or community association, before beginning. If April 27 doesn’t work out, choose a different day — and see what arrangements can be made for assistance by calling Heather Turley at 703-293-7141.
