Family Of Child With Cancer Receives Free Roof For Holidays

STERLING, VA. (Dec. 30, 2025) – DryHome Roofing and Siding awarded Nabanita and Sougata Roy, whose son is very ill with cancer, with a free roof this holiday season through its 23rd annual Free Roof for the Holidays program. Installed today, the Roy family was nominated by the DC Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation.

“With their son’s health issues, the Roy family has struggled with mounting bills. We hope this free roof brings some relief, comfort, and peace of mind to this special family,” explained Steve Gotschi, CEO, DryHome. “Our team was honored to help the Roy family as they celebrate this holiday season.”

Throughout November, Sterling-based DryHome accepted nominations from customers and the community to identify a Northern Virginia individual, family, or nonprofit in need. DryHome selected the Roy family as the recipient based on their needs and the condition of the roof as well as the nomination from DC Candlelighters. The nonprofit provides support at no cost to children battling cancer, their families, long-term survivors and their families, as well as bereaved families residing or receiving treatment in the DC metro area, including the Roy’s son.

The Roy’s Fairfax townhouse roof was showing signs of wear. Unfortunately, with their son’s ongoing medical treatments and related expenses, they were unable to afford such a major cost. DryHome replaced the roof on December 30th, helping ensure their home stays safe and stable during this difficult time.

DryHome Roofing and Siding has been serving Northern Virginia for more than 35 years. The “Free Roof for the Holidays” program enables the company to thank its customers and the community by helping those less fortunate have a safe roof over their heads too. Since the program’s inception, the company has donated 24 roofs worth more than $250,000 to people and nonprofits in the community.

Over the years, DryHome has awarded roofs to people and nonprofits across the region with a variety of needs. Last year, Pathway Homes, a mental health nonprofit, was the recipient. DryHome provided one of its facilities, which houses three formerly homeless adults, with a new roof. Other past recipients include Loudoun Habitat for Humanity; an Ashburn man struggling with cancer; a Navy veteran who founded an animal therapy nonprofit; a Leesburg widow and mother of two young children; Cornerstones, an advocate for the homeless; Doorways for Women and Families’ Safehouse; Good Shepherd Alliance; Falls Church Cub Scout House; and Gabriel Homes.
