Police Pursuit Through Fairfax City Ends in Crash in Fairfax County

Helicopter tracked vehicle before DC driver was apprehended early Thursday by police at Lee Highway and Legato Road.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA -- A police pursuit traveled through Fairfax City early Thursday morning at about 5:50 a.m. and ended in a crash in Fairfax County, according to Fairfax County Police.

When a Fair Oaks district officer attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle for a traffic infraction, the driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated by the officer, police said.

The pursuit entered Fairfax City and was terminated per department policy, restricting pursuits into other jurisdictions. The police helicopter (Fairfax 1) responded and maintained a visual on the vehicle until it re-entered Fairfax County and Fair Oaks officers resumed the pursuit.

An officer trained in the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) successfully executed the maneuver at Lee Highway and Legato Road (see map below), police said. There were no injuries sustained by any parties during this event.

Travis Beard, 36, of Washington D.C., was charged with disregard police signal to stop, resisting arrest, and fail to obey traffic lights, according to police.
