Ruthie's All-Day To Bring Southern-Style Cuisine To Fairfax Corner

FAIRFAX, VA — Ruthie’s All-Day, the Arlington restaurant known for its Southern hospitality and comfort food, will be opening a second location in Fairfax Corner.

James Beard-nominated Chef Matt Hill and his partner Todd Salvadore own and operate Ruthie’s, which has been voted Best Restaurant in Virginia, Best Brunch, and Best Casual Restaurant, according to a release.

Hill named the restaurant after his grandmother, Ruthie, whose homestyle North Carolina cooking inspired him.

“Our community has been so supportive of Ruthie’s All-Day since we opened in Arlington, and we are very excited to bring that same warm hospitality throughout Fairfax, my wife’s hometown,” Hill said. “We can’t wait to welcome even more people to share in the great food, friendly service, and relaxed vibe that make Ruthie’s so special.”

Opening in autumn 2025, the Fairfax Corner location will feature Ruthie’s “signature flavors, vintage-inspired charm, and community-focused atmosphere to even more diners throughout Virginia,” according to a release.

Here’s more of what food lovers will get to enjoy once the Fairfax Corner restaurant opens next year:

In the morning, the breakfast menu will feature ridiculously delicious breakfast biscuits and bowls, thick stone ground grits, house-made sausage, crispy fried chicken, and brisket, egg and cheese biscuits, alongside Counter Culture coffee from Chef Hill’s (and Ruthie’s) home state of North Carolina. Lunchtime brings a mix of fresh ground burgers, sandwiches, and entree salads with greens from local farmers and producers packed with seasonal ingredients. In the evening,the restaurant will shift with Hill’s new take on a meat and three with 100% wood-smoked barbecue and grilled meats, slow-smoked brisket, vinegar-spiked pulled pork shoulder, smoked marinated chicken, and char-grilled gochujang rubbed spare ribs.

Ruthie’s doesn’t stop at meats. Chef Hill will partner with local fisheries to explore the
Chesapeake’s seasonal bounty, offering dishes like wood-grilled Rockfish, fresh Maryland
Blue Crab, and more. With an all-wood-burning smoker and custom wood hearth, every bite of meat and seafood will be kissed with the smoky flavor of hickory and oak. Chef Hill will also create a rotating list of seasonal sides, drawing from the best Mid-Atlantic farms.
Expect comfort classics like white-soy braised greens, kimchi dirty rice, and Ruthie’s
famous Southern-style mac and cheese to make regular appearances on the menu.
The beverage program led by Todd Salvadore will reflect the flavors and seasonality of the food. Wines from old-world classics in the Rhone and Spain will be served alongside eclectic Italian and small New World producers. Cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks will be twists on classic favorites, and a rotating eight-draft beer program will feature local breweries.
Ruthie’s All-Day Fairfax will offer convenient counter service for takeout and will also provide full-service catering for office events, corporate functions, family gatherings, and weddings.
