Elementary Students Thrilled To Choose A New Book
Assistance League Sponsors Another Build A Child's Library Event
Assistance League of Northern Virginia (ALNV) recently hosted a “Build a Child’s Library” event at Loch Lomond Elementary School in Prince William County. ALNV sponsors these book fairs at 6 Northern Virginia Title 1 elementary schools during the school year. Each student in the building gets to choose a book and that book becomes theirs to keep.
Imagine that one of our Build a Child’s library events is where you get the very first book to call your own? We know the presence of books in the home translates to greater enthusiasm for learning. Our program assures that each child who progresses through the school, from kindergarten through 6th grade, will graduate from the school with 7 books in their personal library.
ALNV volunteers generally agree that our "Build a Child's Library" events are one of their favorite programs to participate in. Seeing the excitement on the faces of the children as they choose a book to keep is just so rewarding. All the books are purchased with money that is raised through generous donations, grants and fundraising. It is an all-volunteer organization that can only be successful through the generosity of others.
