Fairfax County Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 2 Students

Police on Thursday arrested a Fairview Elementary School teacher and charged him with two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

FAIRFAX STATION, VA — A Fairfax County elementary school teacher is facing charges after authorities said he sexually assaulted two students.

John Barger, 47, of Springfield, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery following the incidents, Fairfax County police said Friday.

According to authorities, on Jan. 17, Child Protective Services received a referral that a Fairview Elementary School teacher had sexually assaulted one of his students. Police said the student was not injured.

Fairfax County detectives were notified and took over the investigation, during which they determined Barger had sexually assaulted two students on separate occasions, police said.

Barger was placed on administrative leave following his arrest and remains suspended from teaching, police said. He has been employed with Fairfax County Public Schools as a teacher since 2017.

Police said specialists from the department's Victim Services Division were made available to provide support to the victims.

Barger is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond.
