Fatal Crash Involved Driver Previously Arrested for Drunk Driving

Sanchez-Ramos was driving on suspended license

Patch has obtained harrowing pictures and video of Monday's fatal crash on Route 1. The pictures show Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arriving moments after the incident and extricating victims from their vehicles.

Police say Carlos Sanchez-Ramos was driving while intoxicated on Route 1 northbound Monday during rush hour when he struck a car driven by Paul Krause. Krause's car subsequently struck a Mercedes which was traveling in the southbound lane injuring the two occupants of that vehicle. Krause, of Fairfax Station, was killed.

In the car with Sanchez-Ramos was another male and a three-year old boy. Sanchez-Ramos fled the accident site with the boy, but was apprehended a short distance from the scene.

It was later reported that Sanchez-Ramos is in the country illegally, having been deported to his native Honduras in 2004, but returning to the United States sometime afterward. Sanchez-Ramos was also driving with suspended license, having lost it previously due to drunk driving. He faces a number of charges including manslaughter.
