Volunteers Provide Clothing and Baby Bundles In January
Assistance League Members Keep Up An Active Schedule in the New Year
This month, Assistance League of Northern Virginia volunteers, through our “New Clothes for Kids” program, delivered shoes and more than 400 items of new clothing, including hoodies, long sleeve shirts, sweatpants, leggings, socks and Undies to local Title 1 elementary schools for children in need. We are halfway through the school year, and so far, and we have delivered more than 2400 items of much needed new clothing to the children in the 8 schools that we serve.
Along with delivering new clothing, our volunteers packed “Baby Bundles”. The packages include beautiful handmade baby blankets and matching caps that are donated to us by volunteers at Dunbarton Community in Bristow and members of a craft group at the Church of the Nativity in Burke. We add a onesie, some bibs, a board book and a pamphlet of information for new parents. Half of the Baby Bundles will be delivered to Mountain View High School in Centreville and the other half will go to Bryant High School in Alexandria. These bundles are provided to the students who are in FCPS’s Project Opportunity which provides a special program for expectant mothers and fathers at the high school level. The goal of that program is to provide essential additional support to them and to encourage them to graduate with their peers.
ALNV is a 100% volunteer organization and depends on grants, donations and fundraising to provide the funds needed to help the students we serve. Please check out our website to find out more about our organization and see how you can help. alnv.org
