County Loan Approved For Bailey's Crossroads Affordable Senior Housing
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a loan to develop a new affordable housing community in Bailey's Crossroads.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — As Fairfax County's Board of Supervisors works toward an affordable housing goal of 10,000 new units by 2034, it is supporting an affordable senior housing project in Bailey's Crossroads.
On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors approved a $9.7 million loan through the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority for affordable housing developer Wesley Housing's Kindred Crossing project. The 95 affordable units will be independent living homes for older adults 62 and up next to the existing First Christian Church of Falls Church, 6165 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA.
A loan from the county will help Wesley Housing apply for tax credits related to the project.

"Fairfax County’s support of this development is instrumental in addressing two of the leading social determinants of health within the Bailey’s Crossroads community – quality affordable housing and access to health care," said Kamilah McAfee, president and CEO of Wesley Housing. "This loan provides vital local financing leverage that will strengthen our ability to compete for state-level 9 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits during next month’s competitive application process."
Older adults making around 30 to 60 percent of the Area Median Income will be eligible to live at Kindred Crossing. Along with the independent living units, the community will offer 4,600 square feet of commercial space. The nonprofit Culmore Clinic, which is currently in First Christian Church building and provides free healthcare to uninsured Fairfax County residents, will move into the new community.

"This approval represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible community for older adults in Fairfax County,” said Mason District Supervisor Andres Jimenez, whose district is the location of the Kindred Crossing project.
This will be Fairfax County's first affordable housing community developed through a faith-based partnership. According to Wesley Housing, the church shares its vision for providing a close-knit living community for people of different background and cultures. Wesley Housing had collaborated with another church in Alexandria to open The Waypoint affordable housing community.
