BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — While many Fairfax County residents were voting in elections Tuesday evening, firefighters had a close call with an explosion during a response in Bailey's Crossroads.

The explosion happened during a firefighter response to a utility emergency in the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. A video captured the explosion happening while firefighters were in front of the building.

"Thankfully, our firefighters are okay," the fire department shared on social media. "FCFRD firefighters put their lives on the line everyday to protect the lives and property of Fairfax County."

Firefighters had been responding to a shopping center for a utility emergency. The building was evacuated, and the utility company was responding to the scene.
