Falls Church City Public Schools Superintendent Announces Departure

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- Superintendent Toni Jones submitted her resignation to the Falls Church School Board Tuesday night after five-and-a-half years of service, according to a news release from Falls Church City Public Schools.

Jones has accepted an offer to lead the Fairfield Public Schools in Fairfield, Connecticut, a division of 10,000 students in a city of 61,000.

"I have been blessed to be in FCCPS," Jones said in a letter to staff. "I will always hold this time in my career as special."

Under Jones' leadership, FCCPS implemented the Personalize Learning technology initiative which led to George Mason High School's first-ever ranking in the 2016 US News & World Report's annual Top 125 STEM programs in the country.

Jones oversaw the division at a time of incredible growth. When she arrived at the end of the 2011 school year, enrollment was 2,069. Today, FCCPS has registered more than 2,700 students as of Tuesday - a 30 percent jump in five years.

In addition to leading the schools in Falls Church, Jones currently chairs the Region IV Superintendents Group including the leaders of school districts in Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Arlington County, Alexandria City, Manassas City, Loudoun County and more than a dozen others.

For the last several years, Jones has played leadership roles including co-chair of the Virginia School Boards Association’s Virtual Learning Task Force recommending new state and local policy frameworks for the online education of Virginia students.

Jones begins her new post on Dec. 5.
