FCFRD News: Smoke Alarms Save Five Lives In Falls Church Fire
Smoke alarms helped five residents escape a house fire without injuries.

On Thursday, December 18, at 1:30 am, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded for reports of a fire in the 6000 blk of Argyle Dr in Falls Church. Five occupants were sleeping when they awoke to the sound of their smoke alarms. They quickly evacuated and called 911. Units arrived to fire showing from the second floor. Crews extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.

Investigation revealed the fire originated in the living room. The cause has not yet been determined. Total property loss is estimated at $81,000.
Smoke alarms save lives by giving an early warning so you can get out quickly. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home. Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button. Replace batteries at least once a year.

When the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. Have an outside meeting place to make sure everyone gets outside safe. Call 911 from outside your home.
