Fire Does $50,000 Damage to Lake Barcroft Home

Firefighters were called to a home on Jay Miller Drive Sunday when a neighbor saw smoke coming from a nearby home.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA --A fire broke out Sunday at a home at Lake Barcroft, according to Fairfax County Fire & Rescue. Firefighters were called at approximately 1:04 p.m., and were dispatched to a house fire in the 6500 block of Jay Miller Drive.

Units from Fire Station 8, Annandale, arrived on scene to find a two-story single family home on fire. The fire was located in an enclosed carport area attached to the house. Firefighters worked to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading into the home. Crews were successful in extinguishing the fire and keeping it contained to the enclosed carport area. There was no fire damage to the living area part of the house.

No one was home at the time of the fire. A neighbor called 911 after seeing black smoke coming from the home, the fire department said.

Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature. The fire started in the carport area as a result of "an electrical event" that ignited nearby combustibles, the department said. The home’s smoke alarms did not activate due to the fire being contained to the carport area.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported and Red Cross services were not required. Damage to the property is estimated at $50,000.00, the fire department said.
