
Athletic Director Tom Horn will be honored with the 2012 State Award of Merit on March 30 in Norfolk.
The award, given by the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association is for recognition of meritorious dedication to high and middle school athletics. The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, according to a release Wednesday, provides the annual award.
“The list of previous winners from Virginia are a group of esteemed athletic directors,” Horn said. “At a relatively early point in my career, this is humbling.”

Horn is the VIAAA’s president-elect and will assume the office during the 2012-2013 school year, according to the release. Horn has served as athletic director at Mason for the last 16-years and also serves as head coach of the football team. He has also chaired the Region B Athletic Directors Council since 2005 and served in the same role for the Bull Run District and chaired the Group A Sectional Play-off Committee, and the Classification Task Force, according to the release.
