Jaguars Soccer Team Score Big at Local Elementary School

Falls Church High soccer team helps out with Read Across America Day.

The girl’s varsity soccer team visited Friday in support of Read Across America Day.

For many of the girls, it was a trip back to their old school. Students that participated in the activity felt that it was a great opportunity to be able to support reading with the younger generation.

“We have a responsibility to help the next generation coming up and an activity like this made it fun,” said junior Jenny Vique.

Read Across America Day takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, according to the National Education Association. NEA is the sponsor of the reading celebration. Head coach David Dougherty said he was proud of the leadership and poise the girl’s soccer team had while they were working with the younger students and looks forward to continuing this activity.

Sophomore Thea Robinson the day gave the team a chance to be leaders for the elementary school students and show them high school students aren’t scary.

Lizzie Sullivan was happy to work with elementary students and felt it validated her desire to eventually work with students in that age group as a counselor.
