Largely Female City Council Begins Term In Falls Church
After the 2023 election determining three City Council seats, six of seven City Council members are women.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — As Falls Church City Council begins a new term, the city's governing body will be largely made up of women.
Newly-elected members Erin Flynn and Justine Underhill are joining City Council, and Vice Mayor Letty Hardi was re-elected. Former Mayor David Tarter did not seek re-election, as well as former Councilmember Phil Duncan.
Now six of the seven City Council seats are occupied by women — Hardi, Flynn, Underhill, Marybeth Connelly, Debbie Hiscott and Caroline Lian. David Snyder remains the only man on City Council.

City Council's first meeting of 2024 will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8. According to the Falls Church News-Press, a new mayor and vice mayor will be chosen by City Council. City Council members typically balance duties with full-time jobs and appointments on local and regional organizations. City Council members receive an annual salary of $9,200, while the mayor is paid $9,800 annually.
Connelly, Hiscott, Lian and Snyder have terms running through Dec. 31, 2025. Hardi, Flynn and Underhill's terms run through Dec. 31, 2027.
